Neighbourhood Democracy Movement
The L30 Community Centre is a place of welcome for the whole community. This is a building that hosts many activities including social groups, courses, organised groups, exercise classes and childcare, but Asset Based Community Development is at the heart of what we do and the magic happens when neighours become connected.
We create spaces for community members to come together to get to know each other, make friends, share their ideas and share their skills. Alongside the community we then start to see these relationships grow and things start to happen. For example, as this is a community that shows love and care for each other, by connecting local people who had a passion for sharing food and donations from local people a Community Pantry has grown. This is run by the community, for the community.
This is just one of the many ways we have started to see a shift in power and the community realizing that they can do things for themselves and we are very privileged to be alongside the community to see this happen.
