In this workshop exploring planning law, Laird Ryan talks us through the planning process, explores what we can and cant influence and helps us consider how best to create real, organic and local alliances that make the best use of our energy.

Laird Ryan is is a town planner and teacher, with experience of work across the public and voluntary sectors. He’s previously been chief policy advisor to an Elected Mayor, CEO of a large multicultural organisation, and edited a series of blogs on the openDemocracy website, to help people make sense of the government’s localism agenda. He also led a local partnership that saved a former mining village from demolition.

These days, Laird teaches and supervises online research on planning and sustainable development at UCEM, Reading, is a qualified ESOL teacher, vice-chair of a Liverpool-based environmental charity and a member of the worldwide Citizen Network.
