A citizen guide to planning processes - knowledge is power

On 11th March, 11:30am - 1pm, join us for a workshop exploring planning law with Laird Ryan.

We've seen a huge increase in citizen led campaign groups seeking to protect their green spaces and town and city centres from housing and developers.

The Community Planning Alliance are mapping and supporting the growth in action, you can see the map at: https://www.communityplanningalliance.org

Citizens are gravely concerned about the impact such developments are having on the climate and also concerned by developer land grabbing and wealth and land extraction.

Laird Ryan will:

  • talk us through the planning process
  • explore what we can and cant influence
  • help us consider how best to create real, organic and local alliances that make the best use of our energy

Laird Ryan is is a town planner and teacher, with experience of work across the public and voluntary sectors. He’s previously been chief policy advisor to an Elected Mayor, CEO of a large multicultural organisation, and edited a series of blogs on the openDemocracy website, to help people make sense of the government’s localism agenda. He also led a local partnership that saved a former mining village from demolition.

These days, Laird teaches and supervises online research on planning and sustainable development at UCEM, Reading, is a qualified ESOL teacher, vice-chair of a Liverpool-based environmental charity and a member of the worldwide Citizen Network.
